Be Ready for the Comeback

… With Training from TISOH

The COVID-19 crisis has had a deep and disruptive effect on the economy, not only in the U.S. but worldwide. The hotel and hospitality industry has been especially hard-hit, as stay-at-home and shelter-in-place orders have cancelled millions of people’s travel, business, and event plans. Just as other industries face tough challenges ahead, the hotel and hospitality industry similarly faces a road to recovery. Yet as we navigate through these uncertain times, Americans sit on the edge of their seats, ready to get back to business as usual. When the dust settles, and we are cleared to return to our familiar daily lives of work and play, weddings will be booked, hotel rooms will be occupied, and meetings and conferences will again fill our venues. TISOH, The International School of Hospitality, is here to help you prepare for when the economy turns around. Offering professional certificates and diplomas in every facet of hospitality, all of TISOH’s programs can be completed 100% online. Train with TISOH now, and be ready for the comeback.

The hotel industry is a critical economic force in this country, employing over 8 million people and supporting a deep supply chain (AHLA). COVID-19 has created an abrupt and unprecedented drop in hotel demand, sending the industry into a downturn. As of May 6, 2020, nearly 7 out of 10 hotel rooms were empty across the country per STR, and these drastic declines in occupancy rates have forced hotel owners to lay off or furlough tens of thousands of workers across the country. According to the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA), nearly 4 million employees who work in or for the hotel industry will lose their jobs, or have them furloughed, due to the Coronavirus crisis. In Nevada alone, there have been 177,971 positions lost or furloughed. This contraction of the hospitality industry is unprecedented, and has been calculated to be 9 times worse than after 9/11.

The economic impact on the hospitality industry will ripple through the hotel supply chain and local communities. At this point, we don’t know how long businesses will remain closed and stay-at-home orders will remain in place. As individuals we have little control over when this will all be over, but we all know the economy will ultimately recover. So instead of being paralyzed by this moment, we can seize it; we can take advantage of this time to invest in ourselves, our training, and our future. When businesses begin to reopen, conferences and events begin to resume, and hotel rooms begin to fill again, we will need our bright, talented, passionate workforce. There will be a mass hiring across the industry, an unprecedented opportunity for those in the hospitality field.
