The Diploma in Hospitality Operations at TISOH is designed for individuals just starting out in the hospitality industry. Consisting of five required courses and two electives, the Diploma in Hospitality Operations (DHO) program takes students beyond the basics of hospitality through a combination of professional instruction and industry externships that provide first-hand experience. The prerequisite requirement for the program is a high school diploma or equivalent; there is no work experience required.
At TISOH, core skills training is integrated with career professionalism and extensive management training. Students in the DHO program take five core courses designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the most current industry practices and trends. Required core courses include Hospitality Today, Hospitality Marketing and Sales, Hospitality Supervision, and Professional Presence in Hospitality. The fifth course required in the DHO program is the Hospitality Externship, in which students are able to shadow industry professionals, gaining real world experience through hands-on practice in the field.
DHO students are able to customize their chosen path in the industry through their choice of two elective courses. Students choose between Conference Management and Event Planning, Hotel Operations, and Wedding Coordination and Design; and then choose again between Art of Concierge, Event Design and Production, and Meeting and Event Catering. Through this process, each student, under the guidance of dedicated faculty and staff, is able to chart their unique path towards the career of their dreams.
The DHO is a 360 clock-hour program, consisting of 33 quarter credits. There are three learning formats offered, so students can customize their learning to fit their busy schedules. Students may choose to attend TISOH on campus in Las Vegas, Nevada; classroom sessions consist of three semesters of 12 units each. Or, students may take their courses online, with 24/7 access and a personal instructor. Finally, students may choose a hybrid format, taking some courses online and others on campus. TISOH’s student-centered, user-friendly online learning platform allows students to receive the same quality instruction and educational materials as they would in the traditional classroom.
