The Wedding Industry is Bouncing Back!

Make Wedding Coordination and Design Your Career With TISOH

Las Vegas is affectionately known as the “Wedding Capital of the World,” and each year thousands of couples choose to exchange their vows right here in Vegas. In 2021, the wedding industry bounced back from a pandemic low, and in 2022 weddings in Vegas are officially back!

Why do so many couples choose to get married in Las Vegas?

Vegas’ wedding boom traces its roots back to the 1930s, when Nevada eased marriage laws and the state became “the easiest (one) in the nation” to get hitched in, according to the Clark County Clerk’s office. Among the eased restrictions, the state of Nevada dropped the requirement for a blood test, and also eliminated the waiting period to obtain a marriage license. As a result, Nevada became a magnet for couples looking for a quick and easy path to a wedding ceremony.

While the state of Nevada became the easiest in the nation in which to quickly get married, the city of Las Vegas became the most popular choice for couples to exchange their nuptials. Couples love Las Vegas for its celebratory atmosphere, infamous chapels, iconic hotels, and access to luxury spas, shopping, and dining. Vegas also offers an excellent climate and the convenience of an international airport. As a city known for infinite possibilities, thousands of tourists flock to Vegas each year for the wedding ceremony of their dreams.

According to the Las Vegas Wedding Chamber of Commerce, the wedding industry has bounced back after a rough 2020, recording one of its best years in 2021 with over 77,000 wedding ceremonies performed; 2022 is on track to meet or exceed those numbers. In comparison, in 2019 there were just over 73,000 wedding ceremonies conducted, and 2020 saw a low of just 54,575. This data indicates the wedding industry is returning from pandemic lows even stronger than ever before.

The return of the wedding industry in 2022 is indicative of Las Vegas’ strong overall economic resurgence. According to a report titled “The Economic Impact of Wedding Tourism in Clark County,” wedding tourism in Las Vegas generates at least $2 billion annually for the Vegas economy. In 2021, weddings generated $2.6 billion in overall economic impact, and $88 million in tax revenue. The weddings sector of Las Vegas’ economy also directly supports over 18,000 jobs in the city, and this number is only growing as the sector rebounds further this year. This critical sector of the Vegas economy relies upon a talented body of professionals who are responsible for the planning, design, and execution of these 190+ ceremonies per day.
